Standings & tiebreakers
League formats rank teams by points, then break ties in an order you control.
Round Robin and Group Stage use a points table; Swiss ranks by record with Buchholz. You set the points and tiebreaker priority when creating the tournament, and points changes apply retroactively to the whole table.
Settings explained
Points system
How many league points a win, draw, and loss are worth.
Values: Each is 0–10. Default is 3 / 1 / 0 (win / draw / loss), the football standard.
When to use: Raise the draw value to discourage draws, or use 2/1/0 for older league conventions.
Example: 3/1/0: a team with 5 wins and 2 draws has 17 points.
Tiebreaker order
When teams are level on points, these decide the order. Drag them into the priority you want.
Values: Goal difference · Goals for · Head-to-head · Wins. Default: goal difference → goals for → head-to-head.
When to use: Put head-to-head first if direct results should outrank overall scoring; put goal difference first for the common league convention.
Example: Two teams tie on 17 points; with goal difference first, +12 places above +8.
Buchholz (Swiss)
Swiss tournaments break ties by Buchholz — the sum of your opponents' wins. Beating strong opponents scores higher than beating weak ones.
When to use: Automatic in Swiss; it's the standard tiebreaker in chess and most card-game circuits.
Exporting standings
Export the final standings table as a CSV from the Standings page.
When to use: Use for record-keeping, prize calculations, or announcing results.
Standings FAQ
- Do points changes apply to matches already played?
- Yes. Standings are recalculated from all results whenever you change the points system, so the whole table stays consistent.
- How are two-way ties handled?
- Head-to-head is only well-defined between two tied teams. For ties of three or more it can be inconclusive, so goal difference and goals for resolve it in the order you set.
- Can I rank by wins instead of points?
- Points are always primary, but you can add Wins as a tiebreaker and place it high. For pure win-count ranking, set win=1, draw=0, loss=0.
